About Tenorio - Río Celeste
The Tenorio Volcano National Park is a natural conservation area. It is located in the Cordillera de Guanacaste, between the provinces of Alajuela and Guanacaste, northwest of the country between Upala, Guatuso, Bagaces, Cañas and Tilarán. This Conservation Area belongs to the Arenal-Tempisque National System of Conservation Areas of Costa Rica. It was created in 1995 by Executive Order No. 24240-MIRENEM. Its surface covers 18.402.51 hectares of forests and volcanic territory. Within its territory is theTenorio volcano, composed of several cones and craters, and the Celeste River, a great tourist attraction. The area has the richest biodiversity within Conservation Area Arenal-Tempisque.
